DYLAN THOMAS COMES TO THE MADRID
WOODLAND HILLS, CA--When actor Bob Kingdom appears on stage on at the MADRID THEATRE,
located at 21622 Sherman Way in Canoga Park, CA, portraying Dylan Thomas in
DYLAN THOMAS - RETURN JOURNEY, it will truly be a homecoming for the spirit of the legendary Welsh writer.
While beloved in his tiny country of Wales, much of Thomas'
fame can be attributed to four exhaustive reading tours he made of the United
States and Canada in the 1950s. It was in the States that Thomas enjoyed
centre stage in theatres and bars and earned not only a world-renowned reputation,
but much needed money which he squandered until his death in New York's St
Vincent's Hospital on November 9th 1953. Performances at the Madrid Theatre
of DYLAN THOMAS - RETURN JOURNEY will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at
8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 10:00 am and 8:00 pm, and Thursday,
October 16, 2003 at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25.00. Seniors and students, $20.00.
Kingdom's performance of DYLAN THOMAS - RETURN JOURNEY is an evening of celebration and
discovery of Thomas' prose and poetry. A role Kingdom has played with stature and sharp
wit for the past fifteen years, Kingdom's portrayal of the great artist is part of a worldwide
celebration of the 50th anniversary of Thomas' death. Seen throughout the English-speaking
world, Kingdom's performance has attracted rave reviews and standing ovations.
Originally directed by another noted Welshman, Sir Anthony Hopkins, DYLAN THOMAS -
RETURN JOURNEY at the MADRID THEATRE is part of a sixteen-city tour of the United
States and Canada during October and November 2003, culminating in a performance on
November 9th (the anniversary of Thomas' death) at New York City's 92nd Street Y. It was
in the Y's dressing room that Thomas put the finishing touches to his famed Under
Milkwood, even as actors were rehearsing on the stage above.
